Ever since the mind of an ancient man has grown strong enough to appreciate the beauty, humanity admires the beauty of flowers. Since ancient times to flowers have been given magical properties, attributed to them secret meanings and presented to each other as a special sign of attention.

The tradition of collecting flowers in bouquets originated in ancient world, although it is assumed that the modern art of floristry originates in France of the XVII century. However, the very term "bouquet" really has a French origin and literally it can be translated as "a beautiful composition of flowers".

But not always the bouquets were gifted to give beauty and decorate the room. So, in medieval Europe, the scent of blossoming plants and herbs were used to kill the scent of household waste and sewage, because historical sources indicate that  Europe did not immediately smell with the "Chanel". And earlier, while humanity worshiped hundreds of deities, bouquets and whole flower garlands were presented to them as gifts.

Each culture has its own "bouquet" traditions and at times they are fundamentally contradictory. So, in Europe, US and Middle East, one can get trapped by giving a living person a bouquet of an odd flower number. In these countries, such floral arrangements are usually placed on the graves. But in Israel, to deceased do not bring bouquets at all, but traditionally they give each other as a token of love a number of flowers that is a multiple of two.

By the way, when making up a flower group, the account is taken by stems. This is important when there are gladiolus, alstroemeria, shrub roses and similar representatives of the flora in the composition. And such wisdoms in "bouquet science" are not one dozen. In general, modern floristry is a whole science with a lot of rules.

Thus, the composition of any bouquet is based primarily on the principles of harmony, and the design itself is based on three parameters - width, depth and height. The rhythm is set by the use of various shapes, colors and sizes, thanks to a competent combination of which, the finished bouquet turns out to be balanced, regardless of its idea and style.

Meanwhile, not all flowers can be combined with each other. When composing a bouquet, the speed of their withering, symbolic meaning, color scale and even influence on each other are taken into account. For example, orchids do not tolerate neighborhood with daisies, and lilies perfectly feel surrounded by irises. As for color combinations, there are three groups: contrast, similar and monochrome.

In the first case, the compositions are particularly bright, including buds of various shades. To create a bouquet in a similar color scheme, choose flowers with petals which are colored in the nearest sectors of the color spectrum. In a monochrome bouquet, flowers of different shades of the same color are collected.

But today bouquets form not only from flowers. Modern compositions are decorated with ribbons, cloth, beads, twigs, berries and fruits, sweets and soft toys, rhinestones and even precious stones. The latest fashion - flowers in beautiful boxes, inside there is often exclusive handmade sweets or exotic fruits.

Despite the deep rationalism of modern society, the symbolism of the presented flowers is still relevant. So, since the time of Catherine II, when the whole "Registry of Flowers" acted in the country, the red bouquet is a sign of passionate love, and the yellow one is a harbinger of fast separation, blue flowers speak about the loyalty of the giver, and pink ones - about spiritual purity of the addressee.

Earlier one bouquet could replace the whole letter, today it is more accepted to surprise with its luxury and cost. In fact, the main thing in the bouquet is not the number of exotic plants, but the emotional impulse that prompted the giver to his presentation.
