Former Police Chief of Armenia Hayk Harutyunyan has been found shot dead Monday night in a home in Bjni, a village in the province of Kotayk, authorities said.
Authorities received a 911 call around 23:59, September 23, Investigative Committee spokesperson Naira Harutyunyan said on Facebook.
She said officers found Hayk Harutyunyan’s body with a gunshot wound to the head.
A criminal case on Article 110 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code (deliberate or negligible prompting to commit suicide or attempted suicide through threats, cruel treatment or harassment of a person).
A firearm and a cartridge case were found at the scene. Traces of blood were also found.
Harutyunyan was Police Chief of Armenia from 2003 to 2008. He also served as Minister of Interior before that.
From 2010 to 2014 he was the head of the Department of Corrections.
