The country, which is so close to the Slavs and at the same time so mysterious, invariably draws tourists in search of various impressions.

Mineral resorts, interesting sights, ski holidays and a history full of tragic events - Serbia has something to tell and surprise its guests.

This country was not spared by any unfolding war, its inhabitants survived the genocide and tyranny of many conquerors, but retained pride and surprising friendliness. Here a three-fold kiss and a shake of the hand are an obligatory ceremony, observed at the meeting of both men and women. These people, in a good sense of the word, are nationalists, they honor their history and ancestors, and the traditions and customs of their country are very similar to the usual Orthodox Slavs.

Serbian culture was formed under the influence of the Byzantine Empire and the Orthodox religion, and modern Serbia, trying to keep up with Europe, boldly uses Turkish, Mediterranean, Slavic and German trends in art and cooking. And yet, the national culture of the country, having felt the influence of many people who visited it, remained original and truly unique.

Byzantine art and the adoption of Serbian Orthodoxy had an impact, primarily on the architecture of the state. Here, many of the fundamental structures in ancient times were decorated with images of biblical stories, as well as carvings and marble tiles.

In our time, the architectural sights of Serbia are mostly Orthodox monasteries. Those located in Kosovo are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The ancient city was named with the same honor, under the name of Stari Ras, whose history dates back to the Bronze Age. Church of St. Peter, located in this place, was built in the 8th century and is the oldest in the country.

The development of writing on this territory was promoted by the disciples of Cyril and Methodius, and therefore it is possible for Russians to understand the language of the Serbs intuitively, without translators. And to this day in the country two alphabets are used: the Cyrillic alphabet for official documentation, and the Latin alphabet in everyday written communication. Periodicals are also printed in either of two ways, as well as store signs.

As for literature, it clearly shows the influence of Greek and Bulgarian works, and the first writer of this country is Savva Serbsky, who lived in the beginning of the XIII century. But the Ottoman Empire had a special impact on the formation of the national cuisine of the Serbs. Thanks to the Turks, on the Serbian tables there were moussaka, dried chicken legs prosciutto, casserole from meat with vegetables dzhuvech, cutlet pletcher and, of course, coffee. Here coffee is still the drink of morning, afternoon and evening.

Today in Serbia, special attention is paid to sports, and therefore it is easy to meet young people playing in yards, for example, in football. Biathlon and rowing, water polo and tennis are also popular here, and at the Olympics the country exhibits athletes-track and field athletes, swimmers, volleyball players and cyclists.

Here they are - the mysterious Serbian people. They are hospitable and cheerful, love noisy festivities and holidays. Therefore, having witnessed some significant event, do not be surprised if the feast is delayed for a couple of days. But even in the most gracious mood, do not try to argue with the Serb about the history of his country - Serbs are great patriots and will find in defense of their principles hundreds of arguments.
